Living on the East Coast my whole life, I’ve always been fascinated by the Western US. I’ve photographed all along the Oregon, Washington and California seaboards and they are dramatically different. The beaches around LA are a world apart though, if for no other reason than the tight transition between the sea and urban spaces. The light is cutting and clear and the sky is nearly always unbroken. These images were taken along Venice Beach and Santa Monica over a 4 day period.
